Stylist Jessica de Ruiter and sculptor-designer Jed Lind, both former residents of Toronto were accustomed to traditional homes, decided to update a 1950s gem in Silver Lake, Los Angeles into a bright family oasis. The gorgeous black matte kitchen stools (from Sawkille, NY) against the plywood facade of the kitchen island instantly drew me in, then as I saw more photographs, fell more and more in awe with the house’s modern and young vibe.
The home features a lot of large built-ins in lieu of furniture, such as the living room’s sofa and the built-in daybed in the daughter’s room. A focus on warm woods, Moroccan rugs, kilims and vintage Ikat pillows to soften and contrast the home’s sharper angles and eclectic art add the elements to the interior of the house that turns its mid-century modern appeal into a cosy family home….
