Hermès, the 183-year old French luxury House launched its first product into the world of cosmetics yesterday, unveiling 24 Rouge Hermès lipsticks. The highly pigmented lipsticks, of which there are 10 matte and 14 in a satin finish, were inspired by the brand’s archives in Lyon. Creative Director for Hermès Beauty Jérôme Touron referenced more than 900 leather swatches and 75,000 silk colours, noting that at Hermès, colours travel. They are reinvented from one material to another, taking the colour into another direction each time.
In addition to the beautifully designed aesthetics of the colour-block plastic-free packaging, which includes metal and permabrass found in the hardware of some of the handbags, the lipsticks contain ingredients such as white mulberry extracts and beeswax to lock in moisture and provide hydration and are perfumed with a signature scent, notes of sandalwood, arnica and angelica created by Christine Nagel, Hermès’ in-house perfumer. The lipsticks is set to retail in March for $67 and are refillable ($42).
